Its Counterfeit 12

Its Sum and Substance 13

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.

Its Illustration 14

Discussion Questions:

  1. V. 12 – For what wrong reasons do people swear by something other than God? See Deut. 6:13; Matt. 23:16-22 & 5:33-37. ______________________________________________________

  2. V. 12 – Why, in the interest of being God-centered—"holy to the Lord"—should this deception be avoided "above all?" ________________________________________________________

  3. V. 13 – To one degree or another, every human being is rich or poor, "suffering" or "cheerful." What is the right God-centered response? __________________________________________ To whom do you go first in sorrow or in joy? ________________________________________

  4. V. 14 – Olive oil was used medicinally to soften and soothe wounds as they healed—Is. 1:6; Luke 10:34. Doctors may be the agents, and medicine the instrument, of healing, but God is its source. So what is the first thing a God-centered person (you!) should do when sick? _______!

  5. V. 14 – Why call the elders? They don't have a special gift, but a special task--see Acts 6:4. They should be ________________________________________________________________
